Bio for Tye North


A native of Portland, Oregon, Tye has been playing music since he was 14. At sixteen he picked up a bass and started playing regularly in a few Portland Bands. He met Leftover Salmon in 1993 at the Oregon Country Fair. Moving to Boulder, Colorado to join Leftover, he started touring the country on the Salmon school bus, and did so until September 2000. During this period, Leftover played several Major festivals annually, and hundreds of clubs and theaters along the way. He recording three records with them, the last one titled "The Nashville Sessions" featured guests Bela Fleck, Waylon Jennings, Earl Scruggs, and Lucinda Williams. Tye has performed and collaborated with musicians such as Victor Wooten, Paul Mccandless, Mike Kang, Sam Bush, Karl Denson, Robert Walter, Jessica Lurie, and many more. He has performed workshops with Darol Anger, Taj Mahal, Future Man, Wally Ingram, Jeff Coffin, and Bruce Hampton among others. He has taking part in and promoted concerts for the Annual Zambiland Orchestra, held by drummer Jeff Sipe of the Aquarium Rescue Unit/Leftover Salmon/Susan Tedeschi bands.

Tye left the Salmon in fall 2000 to continue on his own individual pursuits, Recording and touring with the group Comotion, with Mike Kang, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Paul McCandless, Jeff Sipe, and Aaron Johnston. After moving back to Portland in 1999 Tye played with the bands Pepe and the Bottleblondes, Pete Krebs and the Kung Pao Chickens, and Porterhouse. He gigs with musicians such as Dave Tiller and Enion Pelta from the group Taarka, and plays with the Freak Mountain Ramblers when bassist Dave Reisch is out of town. Currently his main project is the group "The Theory Of Everything" aka "TOE" featuring Dave Watts and Ross Martin, Jans Ingber, Mike Kang, Kyle Hollingsworth, Robert Walter, Jessica Lurie, and other revolving guests. This group has played shows in Boulder and New Orleans (Voted as of the top five best live shows of 2002 by Jambands.com), and promises new material every show. Tye plays on and off with the immensely talented Danny Barnes, in Dannys group The Old Codgers, and has started the Piano Throwers as a trio with revolving guests, such as Orville Johnson, and Carlton Jackson.
